Aloe vera used to be a sunscreen soother, and nothing more, but now, nutritionists, doctors, and consumers themselves are singing praises for other health benefits of aloe vera.

What is aloe vera?

Aloe vera is a succulent plant found mainly in Africa and the Caribbean. It thrives in dry climates and survives by holding all the liquid it needs in its thick, juicy leaves. There are actually more than 400 species of aloe in the world—aloe vera is the most popular.

How can you benefit from aloe vera?

First, the classic use of aloe vera as a sunburn soother still takes the cake as the most common use of this exotic plant. Not just sunburns, but all burns, benefit from the cooling relief that aloe vera provides, as well as its effect at reducing inflammation. You can either buy aloe gel (mass-produced and in bottles) at your local drugstore, or you can break off a section of an aloe leaf and smear the gel directly onto your burn. For greater surface area, you can peel a large section of the plant and apply it that way.

Next, aloe has recently been discovered to supply other health benefits—not just for your outsides, but for your insides. Here’s how:
• A few teaspoons of aloe juice a day could help improve digestion and help treat heart burn
• Aloe helps promote healthy guns and teeth.
• Ingested aloe can help strengthen skin and reduce wrinkles.
• People who drink aloe vera juice see an increase in their energy levels.
• You can boost your immune system with aloe vera.
• Aloe vera can help diabetics balance blood glucose levels.
• You can replace Tums or other heartburn medication with all-natural aloe vera.
• Similar to reducing burn inflammation on the outside of your body, aloe vera can reduce inner inflammation and can help conditions like colitis.
• You can detox with aloe juice. It’s known to be an innards cleanser.
• It can serve as an excellent laxative.

While aloe vera has been around basically forever, it’s only in recent years that people are rediscovering the advantages that this healthy green plant brings to the body. You can buy the plant and extract your own juice or gel from it (for internal or external use), or you can visit nearly any health food store and purchase energy drinks with aloe vera, aloe supplements, gel, or liquid that you can easily add to other juices for a healthy and tasty drink.

Many people suffer from insomnia or simply can’t shut out the stress of the outside world. If you toss and turn all night long and can’t seem to fall asleep, herbal remedies may be the answer. Some find that herbal sleep remedies offer comfort and relief and are an excellent alternative to over-the-counter or prescribed medications—though many people do swear by the sleep-inducing, calming effects of generic Ambien.
Before taking any herbal remedies, make sure you know which ones have restrictions, and that you know the appropriate dosage that works best for you.
There are a few natural remedies that can help you treat insomnia:
• Valerian – This is known as the best herbal sleep aid because, it has natural sedative affect but is still mild. Unlike with so many sleep medications, Valerian is not addictive. Therefore, after you use it, you wake up refreshed and rejuvenated the next morning.
• Hops – Aside from being an active ingredient in beer, Hops are also an effective ingredient in some herbal sleep aids. Hops can be taken either alone, in tea, or can be mixed with other herbs for a powerful solution.
• Kava – This is an effective herbal drink and used in Polynesian cultures specifically to promote a deep sleep. Since Kava tends to be more potent than other herbal sleep remedies, it should be used sparingly.
• Chamomile – This herb is very popular and is associated with sleep and relaxation. Although people tend to look for chamomile in tea form, it can work quite well as an herbal sleep remedy as well. It is effective because it brings a restful state and has been shown to aid with improving sleep patterns. Chamomile is not addictive, therefore, you can use it when need for an extended period of time if necessary.

In a society where physical appearance is of utmost importance, dealing with hair loss can be very difficult and can greatly affect your self-esteem and confidence level. Although is it normal to shed some hair as part of the normal cycle of hair growth and loss, some people may experience more than normal hair loss.
Here are certain situations that may cause hair loss:
• Like with so many traits we inherit from our family, hair loss is one of them.
• An overactive or under active thyroid usually is accompanied with hair loss; however, treating the thyroid problem may reverse the hair loss effects.
• Many women notice a significant amount of hair loss about three months after giving birth. This is due to pregnancy hormones, where certain hormones causes the body to keep hair that would have otherwise have fallen out. When the hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, the hair falls out and the normal cycle of growth and loss begins again.
• Some medicines also cause hair loss including medication for blood thinners (also known as anticoagulants), high blood pressure or heart problems medications, birth control pills, antidepressants, and an excess amount of vitamin A.
• Certain infections can cause hair loss such as fungal infections of the scalp in children.
In addition, hair loss may also be an indication of disease such as lupus and diabetes. It is therefore important to notice early signs of unaccounted for hair loss.
There are certain natural remedies for baldness:
• Green tea (Camellia sinesis) – Drinking several cups of green teas a day or in a capsule, is thought to inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase that converts testosterone into DHT, hair loss.
• Ginkgo biloba – This herb improves blood circulation to the brain and skin and is thought to deliver more nutrients to the hair follicle, promoting regrowth.
• He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum) – This is a Chinese herb that has been traditionally used to reduce hair loss. Also known as Fo-Ti, it is found in many commercial preparations, in teas and in capsule from.
• Propecia – This drug is not an all-natural remedy, but does show remarkable hair regrowth in men who experience male-pattern baldness. Propecia and generic Propecia are not meant for use by women.

High levels of LDL cholesterol (also known as bad cholesterol) are considered a major risk factor for contracting heart disease and stroke. It is therefore important to maintain low levels of LDL while increasing your HDL cholesterol levels (also known as good cholesterol). There are several natural ways to lower cholesterol.
1. Herbs and Supplements – Before using any supplements, it is advisable to consult with your doctor or online medical advisor. It is also important not to discontinue any medication to lower cholesterol. Some supplements to consider are Policosanol, Red Yeast Rice, Coenzyme Q10, Garlic, and Panthothine.
2. Vitamin B3 (Niacin) – In addition to lowering LDL cholesterol levels by 10%, Niacin also increases HDL cholesterol levels by 15% to 30%. Although the American Heart Association insists on using only prescription form of Niacin, it is also available as a dietary supplement.
3. Artichoke Leaf – Some research have suggested that artichoke leaf extract known as Cynara scolymnus, may help lower cholesterol levels by limiting the synthesis of cholesterol in the body. Artichokes also contain a compound called cynarin, which is believed to increase bile production in the liver and speeds the flow of bile from the gallbladder, increasing cholesterol excretion.
4. Plant Sterols and Stanols – These naturally-occurring substances found in certain plants are found as dietary supplements or are added to products such as margarine, orange juice and dressing. Studies suggest that plant stanols may help block the absorption of cholesterol from the intestines, reducing total LDL cholesterol levels, but did not significantly affect HDL cholesterol levels or triglycerides.
5. Soluble Fiber – Soluble fiber appear to bind with cholesterol so it is excreted, reducing cholesterol absorption in the intestines. Soluble fiber products have a label “heart-healthy” by the FDA, because as little as 5 to 10 grams of soluble fiber a day has been found to decrease LDL cholesterol by 5%. Foods with soluble fiber include: oats, barley, rye, legumes (such as peas and beans), some fruits (like apples, prunes and berries), and some vegetables (such as carrots, Brussels sprouts, broccoli and yams).
6. Diet Pills – While diet pills alone won’t help you lower your cholesterol, they will help you lose weight, which will help you lower your cholesterol. Natural weight loss supplements include Acai Effect and Phentermine 37.5.

Erectile dysfunction can be an embarrassing problem. It can damage both your sex life, and your pride. But there are so many ways to deal with it, it’s important to remember that there are solutions, and some of them can even be fun…
• Role play – Erectile dysfunction can sometimes be a psychological problem. Pretending that you are someone you aren’t could help to shake the problem, allowing you to be freer of inhibitions and approach sex in a different way to usual. And once you act out a couple of those fantasies that you’ve always thought about, you could be so turned on that you will have solved your problem for good.

• Drink and smoke less – Drinking and smoking can make it hard to hold an erection, as they decrease the blood flow in your body. Although a little alcohol can increase your libido, too much can kill it altogether. Try to cut too much alcohol out of your diet, and quit smoking altogether.

• Medication – If you think your problem may be physiological, it is a good idea to go and speak to your medical practitioner about your medical options. There are a variety of drugs available to help with erectile dysfunction, including Viagra, Lovex, and Levitra. And if you do decide to take medication, there is no reason that you can’t try some of the more fun cures as well!

• Acupuncture – Sexual arousal has a lot to do with our state of mind. If you are too stressed or tense, it can be hard for your body to do what it wants. Acupuncture is a natural way to relieve stress and help your body relax.

• Massage – This is another way to help you relax. Go to a masseuse on a regular basis to help lower that tension. Or better yet, get your partner to give you a sensual massage, which should help relax you and turn you on.

But relaxing enough to get a good nights sleep can be difficult, especially when you are so tired that it’s hard to think straight. Trying a natural remedy for your insomnia could be a good solution that will come with fewer side effects.

• Valerian – This herb has been used throughout the centuries as a cure for insomnia. Scientists have not been able to discover the way that valerian works, and it seems to have different effects on different people. It should not be taken for more than three months at a time, and it can have side effects including indigestion, dizziness, and headaches.

• Melatonin – Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone in our bodies. It can help those people who suffer from a disturbed sleep cycle. This means that if you are losing sleep because you do shift-work and can’t get into a sleep cycle, this could help you. Scientists have so far discovered no short term side effects, although there has still been no significant research into the long term side effects of melatonin.

• Relaxation – Often, insomnia is caused by stress. Although there are ways to help you sleep, getting to the route of the problem is often a better and healthier cure. Try different relaxation techniques to see which one works for you. Try visualizing a relaxing scene. Yoga also has excellent relaxation properties, and deep breathing has also been shown to help relaxation.

Although all of these natural remedies have been proven to work, there is the chance that they will not work for you. Medication causes people to react differently, and if none of these natural remedies work, proven sleeping pills such as Generic Imovane or Ambien Generic may have a better effect on you.

Weight loss can be tough to achieve. Exercise is an important element of weight loss, but it can be a while before the effects are noticeable. For some people, this can be disheartening, which makes it hard to keep up the exercise regime. There are other ways to help excess weight drop off quicker, which can help keep you motivated, and make your life a bit easier.

Diet pills can help speed up weight loss, and combined with a healthy diet and exercise, they can really improve your dieting success. Pills such as acai effect work by making you feel full after a small meal. This means that you eat less, allowing you to lose that weight faster. Acai effect is a natural diet pill, which comes from acai berries in the Amazon rainforest in South America. It has been documented throughout history as having medicinal qualities, and was used by tribes living in the rainforest to build up their immune systems.

There are side effects to many diet pills, but sometimes these can come in useful too. Acai effect can help stabilize high cholesterol, and contains a variety of vitamins which can supplement your diet. By using natural diet pills instead of those pumped full of chemicals, those vitamins and antioxidants that are found naturally in plants and fruits can not only help you lose weight, but keep you healthy too.

A healthy exercise regime and diet is a necessary part of losing weight. The trainers at your local gym will be able to recommend the best training for you, which will not only help your weight, but will keep you healthy, help fight high blood pressure, and make you feel good. And once you are looking and feeling good about yourself, those months of hard work will all seem worthwhile!

With all that it is said to treat, is ginseng really the all around wellness miracle herb that it claims to be? The Chinese have been using it for centuries to increase energy, but today it has been known to help in treating stress, increasing alertness and mental clarity as well as reducing fatigue, increasing memory and boosting our immune systems to help fight colds and treat infections. What exactly is it and how does it work?

What we generally call ginseng, is actually a combination of compounds in this specific plant. The two most common sources of ginseng are Asian and American ginseng. While there is another plant native to Siberia with similar active ingredients, it has not proven to be as effective in treating these many ailments. Ginseng works by affecting the adrenal glands that secrete hormones having to do with fighting both physical and emotional stress.

Besides anxiety stress and increasing energy, ginseng has been known to benefit patients who suffer from heart conditions, high blood sugar or glucose intolerance, and even chronic fatigue syndrome (fibromyalgia).

With such a wide variety of health benefits, it makes sense that different doses and forms of ginseng are available. Let’s take ginseng to lower cholesterol as an example of how the herb can be used: Ginseng to lower cholesterol can be taken either in a capsule or as tea. Take it once every two days. Ginseng tea is easy to make: just poor boiling water over 3 to 5 slices of ginseng and let it steep for a few minutes. Ginseng tea can also be made from ginseng extract. Mix one cup of extract with one cup of boiling water. Of course, always consult with a doctor before starting a new herbal remedy including ginseng as it can interact with certain medications. Your doctor may recommend that you use ginseng in combination with a cholesterol drug such as Zocor or Lipitor.

So distress and relax with some tasty Ginseng tea…and let me know how it goes!

Acid reflux is quickly becoming one of the most commonly diagnosed syndromes in America. Due to our modern day diet, high stress levels, and overuse of stimulants such as caffeine, acid reflux is reaching epidemic proportions. With that over the counter antacids and prescription medications such as Prilosec and Nexium have become common household items. While these products can be extremely helpful in calming acid reflux and treating it, why not try some alternative therapies which can actually prevent acid reflux before it becomes a problem.

1. Understand gravity. As acid reflux is the result of stomach acid rising up into the esophagus, it makes sense not to lie down after eating. Try sleeping with your head propped up on pillows, or you can even raise the head of your bed by putting boards underneath.

2. Similarly, try not to eat for at least 3 hours before going to bed or lying down. Give your body time to digest and keep your stomach acid moving in the right direction.

3. Eat small more frequent meals. Eating more often keeps the stomach working and moving things down, not up. Big meals and overeating creates an overflow of food to digest in the stomach. This triggers the stomach to create even more acid to try to break down all that extra food.

4. Try ginger. Ginger has been known to calm an upset stomach. It can be taken in capsules or you can eat crystallized or fresh ginger.

5. Licorice has also been said to help coat the stomach and help prevent acid reflux. It too can be taken in capsule or natural form.

6. Papaya helps the stomach digest food quickly which can aid in calming down an upset stomach after overeating.

7. Meadowsweet, an herb that is available at most health food stores, is not only said to help calm acid reflux but also to help relieve the symptoms associated with it as well.

If all else fails, there’s no reason not to take a medication like Prevacid or Prilosec, both drugs proven to beat symptoms of acid reflux.
